Our Current Beauty Obsessions

Our Current Beauty Obsessions

As self-confessed beauty addicts, finding good quality beauty products is high on our agenda and we often get asked what kind of beauty products we are using. The honest answer is that it varies throughout the year. Our skin and hair changes all the time therefore, so does beauty regime.

Changing your skincare routine is just like changing your wardrobe. You wouldn’t wear a summer dress and a light trench coat in January, so why would you use the same skin and hair care products in winter that you used in the summer? Mixing it up according to your hair and skins needs is something that has worked for us in the past although we think that we’ve discovered some really good products that will feature in our routine throughout the year. We thought we’d share our 7 current beauty obsession we have recently discovered which are all-round good products which will help combat skin concerns such as signs of ageing, dull looking skin and help improve skin texture.

Riley Sunday Luna Sleeping Night Oil £45 www.harveynichols.com

This is one of the best facial oils we’ve tried in a really long time. Sunday Riley’s ‘Luna’ is a retinol-rich night-time treatment which works to reduce signs of ageing whilst you sleep and leaves your skin looking plumper and firmer only after a few weeks using the oil. Apply it after using your cleanser in the evening. This oil is great for using under the eyes and can be applied all over the face too.

Dr Dennis Gross C + Collagen

£33 from www.net-a-porter.com

This serum has made the list mainly due to the impressive promises of the product and its ingredients. As we’ve only used this products for a few weeks we can’t comment yet on how good the product is in the long term but we have been seeing some promising results already such as brighter and plumper looking skin overall. We are excited to see further results after a month or so of usage. An updated review will follow soon 😊

Product information

Dr Dennis Gross’ C + Collagen Brighten + Firm Vitamin C Serum is a serum which contains a high potency of antioxidants and features ingredients such as CoQ10, superoxide dismutase, carnitine, and niacin amide which will help your skin regenerate. The serum also contain skin loving Vitamin C that will help to increase your skin’s collagen production, improving imperfections like dullness, dark spots, uneven skin texture, repair and brighten your skin.

Nip and Fan Glycolic Instant Fix Mask £12.95 from Boots

This may be one of our all time favourite products.

Emelie – I use it once a week to reset my skin after the working week. As our jobs require to wear makeup and different products almost everyday, our skin does needs a little bit of help to stay fresh. This 10 minute Glycolic mask will tightened your pores, smooth away the appearance of lines and wrinkles and leave your skin looking soft and dewy. If you have acne prone skin this will help really help keep your skin looking clear and healthy.

Nivea Skin Refining Scrub £3.99 from Boots

Katrin – This gentle skin refining scrub is great for removing dead skin cells, resulting in more rejuvenated and healthier looking skin. Although I’m currently travelling in Cape Town where the weather is really hot and sunny, it’s perfect for just refreshing the skin in the most gentle way. I use it everyday in fact as it’s not too harsh on my skin and I love the results!

SENHOR DO BONFIM salt water spray (We received ours from Glossybox UK) shop at www.glossybox.co.uk

Now this is a product that’s really had grown on us both.

Emelie – I tend to find salt water sprays quite sticky and they normally make my hair a bit stiff and hard to work with. Yet this product is no way near as sticky as any of the other salt water sprays I’ve tried before.

Katrin – I’m in love with this spray. I’ve used it pretty much every day whilst I’ve been in Cape Town and it makes my curls stay for days without having any other products in it. The biggest plus is that it saves me from using hairspray etc. Perfect for that tousled beach babe look.

Nivea Q10 eye cream was£11 now £5.50 from Ocado

Katrin – I love this eye cream! I’ve used it for a few weeks now and I can really see a difference already. It keeps my under eye area moisturised and plump plus it’s such a bargain. I have used Niveas products ever since I was a teenager and think it may be my all time favourite eye cream. I apply it after I’ve cleansed my face and used the Nivea Skin refining scrub every evening.

Noughty To The Rescue Anti Frizz serum £8.99 from Boots

Emelie – This serum is my go to product pretty much every single morning. Its a silicone-free serum that contains 97% natural ingredients and will keep your hair from drying out and end up frizzy. The “To the Rescue ‘ serum will banish any frizz when used in both dry and wet hair. I love using a little bit in the ends as I come out from the shower. Doing so protects my hair before I blow dry it and keeps it from going frizzy. If I decide to curl my hair that day I use it to finish off the look which makes the curls look really smooth and glossy. The best thing about this serum is that it does not weigh your hair down or make it greasy which I find that most hair serums tend to do.

We are currently on the hunt for new vegan friendly beauty products so we’d love to hear from you if you have any recommendations or any suggestions on brands you’d like us to try out.

The Checked Trend – The High Street Pieces We Love

The Checked Trend – The High Street Pieces We Love

Being fashionable on a budget probably never been so easy as it is right now. With so many high street brands producing great fashion for affordable prices. If you already follow us on Instgram you know that we have a passion for affordable fashion and we just don’t think dressing well should have to break he bank.

One of the biggest trends right now is unmistakable the checkered patterned trend and we have to admit, its one of our favorite trends at the moment. Last week we went a bit bananas doing a bit of a shopping trip/Haul and visited some of our favorite high street stores (and shopped a little online too) and we found some incredible pieces ranging from £8 to £79.

Twinning in two fabulous pieces from Primark. The Coat Emelie is wearing cost  £30 and the Skirt  Katrin is wearing costs £8.

Love pairing this mini skirt with a woolly jumper and once the temperatures are dropping, adding some tights or knee high boots.

This coat is such a bargain and although it’s a budget piece, this coat does not feel or look cheap!

Let’s get neutural!

This gorgeous coat from H&M is combining the trend of neutrals and the checkered trend perfectly. Great quality and fit! £79.99 from H&M

One of the high street stores that are really getting it this season is Primark and they have a fantastic selection of  on trend coats in stores at the moment. Coat was £25 now on sale £15, what an absolute bargain.

We absolutely adore this structured mini dress in oversized dogtooth from UNIQUE21 purchased from ASOS.com (Probably Emelie’s favorite retailer, like EVER 🙂

Another red hot item from Primark (Primark is killing it this season!)

We are loving the combination of yellow tones and the checkered pattern, which gives off a very fresh and on trend look. Coat from Primark £30

Buying and throwing away clothes is detrimental to the environment but shopping on a budget does mean that you are able to stay fashionable without breaking the bank. We always try to find good quality items for affordable prices to eliminate the issue of buying and then after a few uses just throwing the items away. The best thing with these items  that we found is that we found they were actually really good quality which is fantastic when you take the super affordable price point in mind.

What’s your favorite autumnal trend? Let us know in the comments below 🙂

Creamy Spiced Pumpkin Soup

Creamy Spiced Pumpkin Soup

How is it the end of October already? This year really has flown by and Christmas is just around the corner, eeek! But first things first, it’s Halloween next week and although I don’t really celebrate Halloween, I really enjoy  the fact that all the supermarkets have stocked up on pumpkins. When I was younger I didn’t really used to eat pumpkins, not that I disliked them I just didn’t really know what to do with them. I have now realised that pumpkins are really easy to add to a variety of recipes and they are incredibly good for you. Pumpkins are absolutely loaded with antioxidants, Vitamin C, Zinc and potassium, all of which help our bodies to function properly and will ensure that our outer shell i sin tip top condition. For me, consuming foods rich in Zinc is really important in order to keep my skin clear and healthy. Pumpkins also contain plenty of Vitamin C  which keeps our immune system strong, ensuring our skin is staying firm and Vitamin C is vital to the collagen production (very important in order to stay wrinkle free for longer).

Pumpkins are also a great source of fibre which helps to flush out harmful toxins but what I find the most incredible thing about pumpkins is that they contain L tryptophan, which a chemical compound that triggers feelings of well being, boosting your mood during the long and dark winter months. How incredible is that?!

This recipe is super easy and quick to make, loaded with antioxidants ,vitamins and contain absolutely no nasties whatsoever! Plus, my secret ingredient is about to add some serious nutritional content to this soup too 😉

What you need

  • Olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 cloves garlic,
  • 850 grams of Pumpkin
  • 1l of vegetable stock (add more liquid if you prefer it to be less thick)
  • 2 cups of Unsweetened Almond Milk (optional)
  • 38 grams of Vanilla Huel (secret ingredient)
  • 1 cup of full fat coconut milk
  • 2 tsp fresh ginger (ground) (optional)
  • 1 tsp ( I used pink Himalayan salt)
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (more if you like it hot)
  • 2 medium sized carrots
  • Kale for garnish
  • Sesame seeds
  • Pumpkin seeds (optional, I had some laying around)
  • 1/2 tsp of turmeric

Serves 4-5

  • Pre-heat your oven, slice your pumpkin into large chunks and drizzle olive oil over your sweet potato and the pumpkin chunks. Leave to roast for 35 min.
  • Chop up your onion, garlic, carrots place in a high speed blender and add the vegetable stock . Blend until smooth then add your spices and continue to blend until you are happy with the consistency.
  • Remove your pumpkin and sweet potato from the oven and let it cool down for 5 min. Remove the skin and then add the chunks to your blender and pour half of your spice and stock mixture and blend until smooth. Add the rest of the mixture and your 38 grams of Vanilla Huel . Mix until you have a completely smooth mixture without any lumps.
  • Toss your kale in a small amount of olive oil, add salt and a tsp. of sesame seeds and place in the oven for 5 min.
  • Transfer your soup to a pan and let it simmer on a low heat until your kale is ready.
  • Pour the soup into a suitable bowl and garish with a tsp. of coconut milk, kale and pumpkin seeds (optional)

And voila, all done and ready for your to enjoy 🙂

The Ultimate Beauty Advent Calender – Glossybox Advent Calendar

Last week we received a super exciting email from the lovely PR girls over at Glossybox. We had been invited to the exclusive ‘GLOSSYBOX All I Want Advent Party Event’. As you may know we are avid fans of Glossybox, which is a subscription box delivering beauty and cosmetic samples right to your door. As self-confessed beauty addicts this is like having mini birthday celebrations every month which is nothing short of amazing. Christmas is fast approaching and one of our favourite Christmas traditions admittedly is the advent calendar. We really love the countdown to Christmas as it heightens the excitement that surrounds the festive season. This is especially true when the calendar isn’t just filled with chocolates, but with some incredible beauty treats and goodies. The invite stated that the exclusive event would be held at the stylish W Hotel in Leicester Square, and as the event was launching an Advent Calendar we are expecting a glitzy festive vibe. Deciding what to wear and making sure our cameras and phones were fully charged became priority.

As for outfits we decided to go for festive glam and Katrin chose a sparkly jumpsuit and I (Emelie) chose a super cute red glittery crop top (felt so Christmassy!)

We had an absolute blast and if you fancy seeing more of the event and what we got up to, check out our video here:

What to wear this Season Autumn/Winter Trends 2018

What to wear this Season Autumn/Winter Trends 2018

Although the weather is still feeling quite summery, autumn is fast approaching and with it, the Autumn/winter fashion trends. What will we all be wearing the season? We’ve done a shortlist of our current favourite trends this Autumn/Winter 2018.

Animal prints

FotoJet (1)

Embrace your animal instinct. The animal print has made a huge come back this autumn/winter and designers like Tom Ford, Carolina Herrera and Victoria Beckham are totally embracing their wild side this season. Although this is a huge trend, both of us have been a little vary of the animal print trend. Growing up in the early 90s, animal prints had it’s glory and had started to wear a little thin. We grew up associating this trend with crazy 80’s hairdos and women over indulging in over the top eye make-up which made us slight sceptical of this trend. We have however both learned that although every single fashion trend may not be for us, there are ways of incorporating certain trends, in a subtle, much more wearable way. Although we are not going to go full blown animal instinct on you, we do quite enjoy playing around with this trend using accessories and combining an animal print jumpsuit with black heeled ankle boots and all black accessories.

Brown Leopard Print Ribbed Jersey Jumpsuit from New Look £24.99

Black Zebra Print Midi Shirt Dress £24.99 from New Look

Tan Leopard Print Mid Block Heels from New Look £19.99

Pleats Please – to us this trend feels quite summery but it’s actually pretty easy to transition the pleated dresses or skirts onto your autumn winter wardrobe. Style your skirt/dress with a woolen jumper with a mini half tuck, knee high boots and a dark coloured bag. Job done 😊

If your wardrobe is a little Pleats empty, we love this piece from SHEIN.co.uk for £13.99.

Newlook £12

Asos.com £14

Tweed – Girl Boss

We would probably consider this as one of our favorite trends at the moment. Tweed never seem to go out of fashion and perhaps it’s because such a wearable trend. Dress for work in a pair of flats, jeans, a white shirt and a Tweed jacket. Feeling fancy? Dress this trend up with a 60@s inspired mini dress with a pair of ankle boots, a black oversized suit jacket and add a silver clutch.

We are totally crushing over these pieces from New Look

Black Metallic Bouclé Tweed Coat £39.99

black-metallic-bouclé-tweed-coat- (1)

Grey Bouclé Check Button Shoulder Tunic Dress

Black Check Button Front Bodycon Midi Dress £19.99

Scarf prints and silk

This trend just screams Versace. Breathing new life into the well known print trend, this elegant version is oh so chic and totally wearable. Although the over the top prints ala Versace may not be our thing, we do love the idea of pairing a oversized plain cosy jumper with a midi scarf printed skirt or adding a silk scarf to our hair or bag.

Asos.com Slinky kimono midi dress in scarf print £33

Blue printed silky plunge wrap shift dress missguided.co.uk £25.00

Hoods and Capes

Dare we say that this trend feels very Parisian and perhaps a little Assassins Creed inspired? This trend seems like the ultimate way to keep warm this winter without compromising on your style. Wearing a oversized cape may seem a little tricky to wear but we think that rather than going all out with an oversized Cape, we might just stick to a maxi trench with an oversized hood. Plus this is a great trend to protect you and your mane from the weather elements this fall.

Oversized hooded coat £30 from monki.com

Oversized Hooded Teddy Coat £35 from boohoo.com

Black Notch Collar Open Front Sweater Coat from SHEIN.co.uk £25.99

What trends are you most excited about? We’d love to hear your thoughts so please leave a comment below 💭😊👇

Nutritional Health Assessment and Analysis with Gold Collagen’s Nutritionist Vidhi Patel

How healthy are we? We visited MINERVA Research Labs in-house nutritionist and Research and Development Consultant Dr Vidhi Patel to find out.

A few weeks ago we had the chance to find out how healthy our bodies really are on the inside and to be honest with you, this was a pretty daunting thought. We both consider ourselves to be fairly healthy, we both exercise regularly, don’t eat too much refined sugar and don’t drink excessively, but undergo an actually health assessment that would reveal any imbalances and deficiencies seems a little scary. Our bodies are incredible machines which we do not always look after the best we can (let’s be honest!) and for many, if you don’t notice anything signs of illness,we are doing ok right?
Well, it may be a little more to it!

We had never  done a full health assessment before so we would definitely say we felt a little nervous but the wonderful Dr Vidhi was so warm and reassuring our nervousness quickly turned into excitement.

The Test

In order to conduct a full health assessment, Dr Vidhi use a very impressive device called  Electro Interstitial Scanning which is also known as a Bioenergetic electro dermal device. The E.I.S. device will highlight any imbalances in your system including vitamins, minerals, serotonin and hormone levels.  The device will highlight any deficiencies and imbalances that may actually cause illness in the future giving you the chance to change any unhealthy habbits and improve your lifestyle before it is too late. The test is designed to help people understand their bodies better and it is basically giving your body a full MOT, how cool is that?

Find out how we got on here

Health Assessment with Dr Vidhi Patel using Electro Interstitial Scanning

The Results

Our results were very similar and that may be because we do spend a lot of time together and have very similar, hectic lifestyles. We were both recommended to drink more water as we were both very dehydrated, reduce stress-levels and a reduction of sodium was also recommened. We cannot recommend this test enough as it helped us understand our bodies better, what we are doing wrong and what we are doing right.  The assessment was really helpful as we now feel in control of our own health, we feel empowered as we now feel that we are able to improve our health with simple lifestyle changes. We have both taken Dr Vidhis advice and we feel SO much better for it, it really has changed the way we look after our bodies. Understanding your body better feels empowering!

Do you have any unexplained aches, pain, unexplained dizziness, tiredness, loss of hair, lackluster skin, premature ageing, loss of sex-drive or simply feel that your body is not as balanced as you wish it could be? Then we’d highly recommend to book an assessment with Dr Vidhi today. We have not been paid to say this, we are just very impressed by the accuracy of the test and how helpful it has been to us.
