Britain has been hit by a heat wave and the sun is out in all its glory. We can’t actually remember a summer in the UK where the weather has been as great as it has this year. But with sunshine comes responsibility, to ensure you are protecting your skin.
Protecting and caring for your skin is important, especially when the UV rays are at their strongest, ie this time of year. Remember to invest in your skin as it’s going to represent you for a long time and we therfore consider wearing a good SPF a must.
Worried you won’t get a tan?
There are a lot of myths surrounding the application of SPF and how it affects your tan. Many believe that you don’t get a tan if you use a high SPF which is simply not true. Vanda Serrador, facialist and body care expert at The Body Shop helps to dispell this myth in a recent article about SPF published by skincare.com.
“Of course you can still get tan while wearing sunscreen,” Serrador says. “It all depends on the strength of the SPF. There is no sunscreen that will block 100 percent of UV rays, so your skin—especially if it burns easily—may still get some color even with it on, just at a slower rate.”
Why run the risk of burning your skin when you can still tan just at a slightly slower rate? There is also another very strong argument (apart from the risk of developing skin cancer) for wearing SPF every day (even throughout the winter and during cloudy weather) as the sun’s UV rays have been shown to account for a whopping 80 per cent of skin ageing. So if you are not concerned about burning then you might consider the the premature ageing it will cause.
Finding the right SPF protection for your face can be a little bit tricky, especially if you suffer from oily or dry skin. Throughout the years I (Emelie) have tried my fair share of different sunscreens and due to my oily and acne prone skin, I have struggled to find an SPF that does not clog my skin, irritate my sensitive skin or give my face that all telling “white glow”.
I (Katrin) on the other hand have found it hard to find a good SPF that does not dry my skin out.
So how do you find the perfect SPF for your face?
There are so many different products on the market so we thought we’d compile a list of our 4 favourite sunscreens especially designed to protect sensitive and oily skin.

It is also oil free reducing the risk of developing a shiny complexion. The formula contains advanced filters and a Bioshield System that provides broad-spectrum protection against UVA, UVB, visible light and IR-A (infrared radiation -A). It is also great to use underneath makeup and does not show up on the skin and is camera flash safe.
